chained-prometheus:

So these screenshots from the Volume 4 trailer hit the web earlier… and when I combine these images with some of the information that was just given to us at the RWBY panels at RTX 2016, I’m starting to form an idea on what might possibly happen in Yang and Blake’s storylines in Volume 4.

First off, Yang doesn’t look like she’s still mopey here- she looks angry. Moreover, she also looks focused. Combining that inference with the statement at the second RWBY panel yesterday that Volume 4 wouldn’t be a “mopey story” and their other general descriptions of what’s to come, I’m thinking Yang is going to leave Patch pretty soon and head out to Atlas to finally try and get herself a prosthetic arm. Either that or she goes off to find Raven and gets her new arm from her somehow.

Blake, as we see here, isn’t in Vale anymore. She’s at some pier, but beyond that we can’t really tell where exactly she might be. However, seeing as how Patch is an island off the coast of Vale, I’m thinking that some stuff might happen in the early episodes of Volume 4 that will finally convince Blake to try and go back to Yang. However Blake isn’t going to make it in time- if she does go to Patch, she’ll arrive not long after Yang’s already left and headed out on her journey. Thus, Blake will follow after Yang and eventually catch up with her in the second half of the volume (Rooster Teeth does love their teasing, after all).

Since Rooster Teeth talked about how all four of the main girls are going to be having their own arcs in Volume 4, I’m thinking that the general direction for Yang and Blake will be as such:

Yang - Dealing with the loss of her arm and the subsequent pursuit of getting a prosthetic, whilst also dealing with the hurt she might still have over Blake abandoning her. Potentially also explore more on Yang’s subplot with Raven.

Blake - Realizing that she needs to not run away, then chase after Yang to finally reunite with her and try to win back her trust.

It’s hard to tell right now, but if I were to guess who in the cast will get the earliest reunion in the show, I’d say it’s probably going to be Yang and Blake. Either them or Yang and Weiss (if Yang goes to Atlas and get herself a prosthetic). I say this because whenever Team RWBY does regroup in the future, be it the finale of Volume 4 or some other point in Volume 5, Yang and Blake will need to have sorted out their issues together in order for the whole team to properly function together.

On top of that, more than any of the other main characters right now, Yang and Blake’s personal arcs are very closely intertwined with one another. Yang’s injury and depression are hugely influenced by Blake and the most central form of Blake’s “running away” right now is her abandoning Yang. I’m not really sure that the show can give either of them longterm arcs without a reunion happening at some point in Volume 4, unlike say Ruby or Weiss.
